Time to ban women’s football again? ⚽

'Women don't really like aggressive sports'

'They're too passive to play the game properly'

'And they're not strong enough or fast enough so the game is really boring to watch'

'That's why no one watches women's football - because it's simply not as good as men's football'

'It's market forces - no one goes to watch it, because it's dull'

'And most of them can't understand the offside rule'

'Anyway, most female fans or players are lesbians - that's a fact'

We've all heard these types of things said about women and football in our lives - but we hope that we can finally call it a day on these sexist comments, after the fantastic performance by the England women's football team at the Euros 2022 finals on Sunday night.

They beat Germany by 2-1 in extra time in a thrilling game that saw the biggest attendance of ALL TIME, either at a men's or women's Euro final tournament (87,192).

For too long women have been held back from playing football, disencouraged by school curriculums, and their abilities mocked.

And in 1921 women in the UK were BANNED from playing football at the FA's football pitches for 50 years.

For this tournament, the stadiums were packed full of joyful young fans, and catering was doing as much trade in crisps and fizzy drinks as it was in beer. Which lead to a friendly atmosphere - no booing the opposing team's national anthem, minimal security, no need for segregation and plenty of singing and dancing.

Let's hope this is a turning point for the game.

As Gabby Logan the BBC sports commentator said in her sign off speech 'They think it's all over… but it's just the beginning'. ⚽
