If you feel in control, you’re not going fast enough
Do you ever feel yourself wishing that your life was calm, predictable, quiet?
We talk a lot about burnout and self care, but there is also something to be said for embracing change and enjoying that feeling of being a little bit out of control.
And yes it's true that lots of things are better when you slow down - slow cooked food, long conversations with your friends and family, lazy weekends watching films.
But moving fast can be a lot of fun, and we shouldn't be afraid of it.
Here are 3 tips to help you feel comfortable when everything is not fully in control at work.
1. Operate on incomplete information
It has been said that leadership is about having the courage to make decisions with incomplete information - if you've got 80%, you've probably got enough to move forward.
2. Expect 25% failure rate
You're going to make mistakes and things are going to go wrong. Get over it.
3. Embrace uncertainty
Successful ventures always have an element of chaos - if you're creating something new, and you're moving fast, it's going to feel chaotic at times. Huge successful companies didn't become that way by following the predictable and safe path. If you want big exciting things, you're going to have to feel out of control at times.
Sometimes chaos is where the greatness lies.
